I found the heading description of these candlestick holders to be quite accurate and informative. These holders are not of the quality that you would likely consider them for everyday use. They are great for events such as a wedding when you need a bulk amount and need to be thrifty or for inclusion in a holiday arrangement. In other words, no one would think they are brass. They are obviously just gold colored and not finished evenly. (Some surfaces are shinier than others.) Still, they work fine for seasonal use. (I’ve attached a couple of photos that illustrate this.)I can’t speak to whether or not there is a problem resulting from the opening in the bottom because I’m not lighting the candles. I can speak to the problem of the size of the round indentions where you insert candlesticks. It is much larger than needed for any of the candlesticks that I own. I have several products that are sold to address this problem, but none were adequate to deal with the size of these openings, I ended up wrapping the base of my candles twice with corrugated cardboard strips that I cut from a box. The candles are secure now, but those cardboard wrappings would be quite visible if I were not using decorations around the area where the candles are inserted.Overall, I believe they are worth the asking price for the uses I’ve suggested. (To me, it makes no sense to invest in brass candlestick holders just for seasonal purposes.) I am deducting one star for the problem with the size of the candlestick opening. I have never seen candlesticks that would be wide enough to stand erectly and securely on their own, which means I will always have to use these holders with decoration. That’s not a dealbreaker for me, but it could be a problem for someone who just wants to use them with candles unadorned.
